Nanoparticle anti-cancer therapuetic
Nanoparticle anti-cancer therapuetic by Theresa Phamduy.
Nanoparticle anti-cancer therapeutic - development of ferric oxide nanoparticles that specifically homes to and induces hyperthermia in epithelial breast cancer cells.
TEM image of ferric oxide nanoparticles (~9 um diameter) with biologically inert silica coating.
Diagram of nanoparticle anti-cancer therapeutic mechanism.
CPP-functionalized Fe3O2 nanoparticles with FITC-doped SiO2 coating will home to breast cancer cells and be internalized via CPP-receptor interactions. The introduction of a radio frequency field will induce hyperthermia in cells with internalized nanoparticles and cause tumor cell death with no damage to non-cancer cells.
